| LOLA NELSON, S.W.A., W.A.O.W., A.C.A. Born and reared on a farm in the Catskill Mountains of New York, Lola learned to love the outdoors and animals. Drawing came naturally to her, and she pursued art throughout high school and later graduated from Art Instruction Schools in Minneapolis, Minn. She has taken classes from several nationally-known artists and instructors as well as some well-known local artists. “An artists never stops learning and should always be receptive to new techniques and challenges. The basis for a good painting is a good drawing. I feel God has blessed me with a gift of drawing and I want to share it with others.” Equally versatile in oils, watercolors, pastels and woodcarving, much of Lola’s inspiration comes from her love for nature. While she paints a large variety of subject matter, she is best known for her portrayals of old tractors, steam trains, wildlife and national parks. The artists is a signature award member of Society of Western Artists, Women Artists of the West and Alliance of California Artists. Other memberships include, Clovis Art Guild, Central California Wood Carvers, National Wood Carvers Association and the California Carvers Guild. She has earned over 300 awards in local, national and international juried shows since 1982. She has earned many Best of Show awards and other special awards. She is called upon to give art demonstrations, workshops and to jury art shows. |
